For as long as he can remember, Robert Oxley has loved painting and he is an entirely self-taught artist. Over his career he has enjoyed exhibitions in various galleries throughout the UK, appeared in number publications and was highly commended by the BBC wildlife artist of the year before signing a publishing deal with Washington Green Fine Art.
Wildlife has always been the subject of his work but his most recent work has seen Robert immerse himself in pop surrealism. He is influenced by artists such as Robert Crumb, Glenn Brown and Robert Williams. Robert calls his unique style ‘psychedelic natural history’.
His medium is primarily acrylic on canvas and the approach to Robert’s latest work is all about being in the moment. He wants the work to look like it was made quickly and loosely but on inspection every brushstroke is considered and painted meticulously.
“My work is appears loose and free but is in fact complex, which is what nature is all about.”
