Born in Rhyl in North Wales, Kerry Darlington believes it was the magical fairy tale picture books and stories during her childhood that inspired her to become an artist. The intricate pen and ink work of Arthur Rackham held particular fascination for Kerry and ultimately influenced her decision to complete a degree in illustration with the objective of becoming a children’s book illustrator.
It was during her illustration degree that Kerry discovered the Pre-Raphaelite artists and Art Nouveau and the hauntingly beauty captivated Kerry then, and still has a profound She found this work so hauntingly beautiful that it completely captivated her. This influence can be seen in her art even today. Deciding to become a full-time artist and fitting this around family life, Kerry began to build a reputation for her original art. Kerry’s decorative designs focused primarily on trees and nature, incorporating 3D elements and resin and they became hugely popular very quickly. Today, she continues to paint themes of myth and legend, poetry and stories.
In May 2012 and in 2014 she was awarded ‘Best-Selling Published Artist’ at a ceremony by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Kerry continues to inspire other artists and has become one of the most sought after artists in the UK, with hundreds of collectors across the country and worldwide.
