Dale Bowen
Dale was born Staffordshire 1963, where he still lives and paints today.
You may find it interesting that he is in fact a master potter and has worked in the industry for over 20 years! Firstly for Coalport China, which was the first porcelain factory in Coalbrookdale, Shropshire, where he eventually commissioned a piece for their 250th anniversary. Dale then moved onto Wedgwood, a fine china, porcelain and accessory company, where he worked in their Prestige Department and created many one-off pieces for the collectors' market and commissions, including pieces for The Queen Mother’s 100th Birthday and HMS Victory celebrations. At this stage of his career he was exhibiting worldwide and selling pieces worth an excess of £100.000! Dale later went on to get his Masters Degree in Ceramics at Staffordshire University.
As Dale’s success grew, so did his love for painting, resulting in him revisiting his easel. Dale says, "Although working in the pottery industry for so long and being creative with clay, it was always the joy of painting which was my first love and keeps me returning to canvas. When painting I like to use a variety of mediums as I feel the need to experiment and master as many methods as possible. Creativity comes from a number of different sources, observation or even conversation, inspiration always surprises me in the ever unusual ways it catches me."
Now better known for his whimsical, multicoloured originals that are loved by adults and children alike. Dale’s passion and joy is evident in his playful pieces with suitably humorous titles. Each unique piece tells a story and contains hidden elements that invite the viewer in for a closer look-where they may find an animal, person or car hidden amongst the vivid, rolling hills and topsy-turvy buildings.
Dale can also be recognised for his marine scenes depicting both stormy and balmy seas paired with vibrant, multicoloured sailboats. Built up with layers and layers of mixed media to create a beautifully textured piece perfectly representing the waves of the ocean on which the boats sail.
There is no doubt that Dale Bowen is exceptionally talented and the passion for his rediscovered love of painting is evident in each unique piece he creates, making it no surprise that he is now a sell-out artist!
