With a passion for art from an early age, Stephen has always known that he wanted to become an artist. Inspired by many different artists including Arthur Rackham, Alan Lee and Frank Frazetta and has always been drawn to the combination of realism and fantasy.
After graduating art college with a distinction in graphic design, his first job was working for a greetings card company but with an avid interest in films he became a visual development artist for a production company and worked on projects such as The BFG, Dangermouse and Count Duckula and then later full-length films including Despicable Me and Arthur Christmas.
Following the opportunity to exhibit some of his personal work at a gallery in Bristol, the possibility of becoming a full-time artist began to seem like a reality. In partnership with his wife Lisa, Stephen set up IN THE RED PRESS to bring his digital paintings to the world of galleries.
“I still love the world of animation and books, but the fine art world offers up a freedom for my personal work which I find really exciting.”
