Alexander was born in 1960 in Springside, a small mining community on the west coast of Scotland. His father worked for British Rail and Alexander got great pleasure from simply sitting in the atmospheric steam filled stations.
In 1976 Alexander left Springside for Newcastle upon Tyne where he found it had (and still has), its fair share of characters locally known as ‘Gadgies’, which fed him much inspiration later on in life when he finally discovered his destiny as an artist.
